Our curriculum, within and beyond the classroom, focuses on the expansion of knowledge, objectivity, problem solving, judgment, and creativity - all skills that may be honed in a university setting. Yet, we know without real-world experience, developing these skills is limited. North Star was created for aspiring and existing senior leaders across the global law enforcement community. While the CPLE may make exceptions on a case by case review, we ask that applicants possess the requisite experience and rank to fully engage in this context. At North Star, you can be confident your fellow participants possess comparable backgrounds to appreciate your challenges and contribute to each others success.
We do not require our students to be sworn law enforcement officers, but we do require applicants to be currently employed in either a local, state, federal, tribal, military, or international law enforcement agency. And while the vast majority of attendees are sworn, non-sworn leaders in the policing field (e.g. Media representative, Director of Training/Academy, Director of Communications/911 Center, Special Assistant to the Chief) can benefit and contribute to our program. We need you to show up in good shape too. In no way are we a boot camp, but we still need you prepared to tackle the physical challenges that await over the next four weeks. Health, fitness, and wellness are core components of the North Star philosophy.
Lastly, keep in mind who we are as an organization. We want students with exceptional character and reputation. We want students with a passion for service to others, leadership, and life-long learning.
