On behalf of the Board of Governors and staff, welcome to the Center for Police Leadership & Ethics! Seven years ago, we assembled a small team comprising some of the best leadership educators in the law enforcement community. Our team had decades of field experience, unparalleled backgrounds creating and leading some of the most prolific executive programs in the world, and extensive teaching backgrounds not only in university settings but in renowned leadership programs such as the FBI National Academy, the National Executive Institute, and the International Law Enforcement Academy in Budapest, Hungary. We came together with the singular purpose of creating an organization, committed to challenging the status quo and dedicated to excellence in everything it does, to transform the world of executive training and education in policing.
We researched and benchmarked other programs around the world. We asked police leaders and stakeholders sharp questions, and we listened intently. We identified good training that could be great, and we discovered outright gaps in training that needed to be filled. We established a Board of Governors comprising internationally respected leaders to offer continuing guidance. We established partnerships with some of the most prestigious and consequential law enforcement associations in the world. Then, and only then, we set out to create innovative courses and programs of significance and value to you. We built the North Star Executive Leadership program, a blended residential and online opportunity unlike anything in the world. We created two and three day cutting-edge courses we bring to your agency or event including our latest offerings, the DISC Facilitator Certification course (2 1/2 days) and the Adult Learner, an advanced, nuanced exploration in instructor development. Our Crossing Program, comprising three two-day courses over 12 months, has exploded on the domestic scene across the country rapidly becoming our flagship program. And of recent, we have jumped into online education in a big way. We also established what we hope to be a long-lasting relationship with the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) through our course titled, Decision Point: Ethics, Morality, and Decision-Making. Through their National Certification Program, our courses receive POST certification in nearly every state in the country. I ask you take a few minutes to fully explore our website to get a sense of the bold new approaches the CPLE is taking to make your agencies better.
Each of us has chosen a life of public service. Regardless of the many distinct reasons we chose this profession, we all share a common calling to protect those who cannot protect themselves. But commitment is not enough. What we think or wish is important but is of little real consequence without action. What matters most is what we do, the actions and behaviors we take to impact others. Your actions to support and engage in our programs and courses strengthen our law enforcement agencies, communities, and the greater society. The CPLE tag line is “Pursuing Lives of Consequence.” Yet, this is much more to us than a tag line. Every course, every program, every decision we make is influenced by this philosophy. I invite you to read our Vision and Core Values. They truly serve as a compass in all we do.
Thank you for your service. Thank you for your commitment to pursuing lives of consequence.
